Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of exacerbating tensions in the Middle East by sending an aircraft carrier group to the region. Speaking at an energy conference in Moscow, Putin expressed his belief that compromise solutions were needed and expressed hope that common sense would prevail.
Putin specifically referred to the recent escalation of violence between Israel and the Palestinians as a clear example of the failure of U.S. policy in the Middle East. He stated that the U.S. had not taken into account the needs of the Palestinians and criticized their decision to send a carrier strike group, including the USS Gerald R. Ford, closer to Israel in response to the attack by Hamas militants.
The Russian President questioned the purpose of the U.S. move, asking if they intended to bomb Lebanon or if they were trying to intimidate someone. He emphasized that such actions only served to inflame the situation and that compromise solutions should be sought instead.
Putin accused Washington of bypassing the established process for resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and attempting to handle the situation on their own without addressing the fundamental issues. He also expressed skepticism towards the accusations against Iran, stating that they were made without evidence.
Highlighting the severity of the situation in Israel, Putin stressed that the broader conflict could not be resolved without addressing the creation of a Palestinian state. He warned that any escalation in the conflict zone could have severe consequences for various sectors, including energy.
The Russian President specifically mentioned the potential impact on logistics, insurance, and freight, emphasizing that while energy production may not be affected, other components that determine the state of the world’s energy markets could be.
