It was revealed by his family in month the news that Bruce Willis would retire from acting following the diagnosis of the condition known as aphasia. About a year later, Willis was diagnosed with an even more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Since then, his family members have posted information about his health as well as the celebration of his 68th birthday this year with Demi Moore as well as his ex-wife, along with their children Scout, Rumer, and Tallulah and his present partner, Emma Heming Willis, as well as their two children, Mabel and Evelyn.
In the month of March, Willis’s late-1980s ABC series Moonlighting is now available to stream on Hulu. For five seasons, Willis and Cybill Shepherd revolutionized the will-they-or-won’t-they couple on TV–and the actor was eager for the world to see the show again on streaming, according to Moonlighting creator Glenn Gordon Caron. “The process of getting Moonlighting on Hulu took several years and Bruce’s illness is a progressive illness. Therefore, I was able to speak to him, prior to the disease had rendered him incommunicative as he has become trying to get the show in front of viewers,” Caron recently told the New York Post. “I know it means a lot to him.”
Caron stated that he’s been in touch with Willis’s wife and her three older children after co-workers on the set of Willis’s latest films expressed concerns about his health prior to the diagnosis. “I have tried very hard to stay in his life,” Caron declared in his statement, adding that “The aspect that makes [his disease] so remarkable is that anyone who has ever had the pleasure of spending time together with Bruce Willis, there is nobody who has more joy as he. He was an avid traveler and…just loved getting up every day and trying to live his life to the maximum.”
Caron claimed that FTD has left Willis mostly incapable of communicating, and he said that it’s like “he now sees life through a screen door.” However, Caron believes Willis can identify his own. “My sense is the first one to three minutes he knows who I am,” Caron explained. “He’s not entirely verbal; the man was once an avid reader but did not want anyone to know about it, and the fact is that he’s no longer reading. The language skills he had aren’t readily available, and yet, he’s Bruce.” He said, “When you’re with him you realize that Bruce is Bruce and you’re glad for his presence however the joy of life is gone.”
Heming Willis is married to actor Michael Douglas since 2009, gave her own version of Today this month, at the time of World Frontotemporal Dementia Awareness week. She said that although Willis’s health condition has been “hard on the family,” there are “so many wonderful things happening within our daily lives. It’s important to me to step back from the pain and sadness to observe what’s happening all around us. Bruce would want us to experience the moment of joy in what’s happening. He would certainly like that for me and our entire family.”
